Love is the flower

Hi Everyone,

Today I want to show you some of the fantastic Cheery Lynn Designs Embossing Plates.  I have made a rather clean and simple card that I hope helps to show you just how lovely they are.  If you have not tried them before you really should!  Not only are they more durable than the plastic embossing folders, they are more flexible and Cheery Lynn Designs has some very unique designs that will provide another level of texture to your project.

Flower Cart

Hi Everyone,

The last time I was away on vacation I spied a gorgeous little cart where locals were selling fresh flowers on the side of the road.  I was really taken with how lovely it was and so I thought that this might make for some lovely inspiration for this week’s theme “Lots of Layers”.

Flower-Cart

The Daisy Lace Frame made the perfect roof for my miniature ”cart on wheels” which I lined with some green vellum paper that I have been holding on to forever just waiting for the perfect project to use it.  This was it!

I am just in love with the tiny vases and can see that I will definitely be using these a lot!  I would love to hear your ideas on how you would use these little beauties.  For this project I wanted them to have some dimension but they are just as gorgeous when you use them as a single die cut : )

Here is a closer look

Scor-Pal Basket

Hello again everyone,

Joann with you again to show you how to make a fun little basket.

I got the idea from a little paper game I use to play with as a child.  It is called Paper Fortune Teller.   I found one in an old box of stuff and when I looked at it upside down, it was perfect for a basket.

Full-Basket

and here it is with another angle

Full-Basket1

To make this fun little box follow these simple steps:

Cut a piece of cardstock 8 ½ inches x 8 ½ inches

Score at 2 1/8, 4 ¼ and 6 ½

Step-1

Flip and score the other side the same 2 1/8, 4 ¼ and 6 ½

Place your Scor-Envi on your Scor-Pal and score at the 9 mark on all 4 sides

Step-2

To fold the basket do the following:

  1.  Turn the cardstock so it looks like a Diamond
  2. Fold the 4 points into the middle so you are left with a square
  3. Flip the card stock over and fold the 4 points onto the middle again
  4. Fold the card stock in half and then fold in half again on the other side
  5. To make the basket simply place the folder card stock so that the top looks like a W and push in on the 4 corners.
  6. Glue the basket to a doily
  7. To make the handle I used a strip of paper 1 ½ x 10 ½ and punched the edge with a Martha Steward edge punch

Here’s a list of the products I used for this project:

Cheery Lynn Designs English Tea Party
Martha Stewart Edge Punch
Graphic 45 – Secret Garden Paper

A Die for a Sketch Challenge and Blog Hop

Good morning,

Today I am thrilled to help celebrate the first anniversary of A Die for a Sketch Challenge.  My friend Judy who is one of the design team members was asked by Dunja the owner of the challenge if I would be a guest designer for this week to help them celebrate.  Well it took me about 2 seconds to say yes.  I am just thrilled and honored that they would even ask me.

For their challenge the rules are very simple, follow a Sketch that they provide for inspiration and use at lease one die cut.

Here is the sketch for this week

Tealight Tabletop Lamp

Hi Everyone,

Today I want to share with you a 3D lamp I made.  It holds one of those little battery operated tea lights so the light will flicker through the doily.  I lined the inside of the lamp shade with Velum so that I could cutout the tiny doily and then re-attach it to the shade.

I was actually looking for inspiration for decorating a lamp shade and found this cut file from SVG Cuts and just fell in love with it.  I tweaked the file a bit to make it my own and I am really happy with the way it came out.

I want to thank Mary and Leo for providing us such a wonderful foundation for expressing our art.

CLD078-Lamp

and in keeping with this weeks theme, I had to bling it up!  I also trimmed the top and bottom of the shade with the Border Carnivale die and added a Rose to the center of each section of the shade.

Here’s a list of the dies used for this project:

B129 – Cherry Blossom
B151 – Cuties 3

Happy Mother’s Day

Hi Everyone,

We are fast approaching Mother’s Day so it is time to dust off the Vintage papers and create a card for your Mother.  This one is actually a gift for a friend so I still have to make a card for my own Mother.

I have seen this card used by many different people and I absolutely just love it so I had to give it a whirl.  It’s called a Pop Up Book Card and you can find the tutorial here.

CLD77---Front

I am really happy with the way it turned out.  What I like about this card the most is the inside.  We normally do not give much attention to the inside but this fold is all about the inside.

CLD77---Inside

Since this was a gift for a friend I also made a special box to hold the card.  You can find my tutorial here.

CLD77---Box

Here’s a list of the dies used for this project:

B226 – Happy (Set of 2)
B227 – Love (Set of 2)
B232 – Mother’s (Set of 2)
B235 – You (Set of 2)
B236 – Day (Set of 2)
B308 - City Girl Edger
B311 - Chrystanthemum Strip
B315 – Ivy Corner Flourish
XM-8 – XM Scalloped Oval
DL140 – Dutch Scallop Square
Flourishes Stamps – Motherly Love

I hope you can find some time to visit the challenge this week and put in your entry where the theme is Mother’s Day!  With your entry you will have a chance to win a $20.00 shopping spree at Cheery Lynn Designs!

Scor-Pal Expanding Box

Hello again everyone,

It’s Joann  here again and I am delighted to show you another fun little box to make.  I got the idea from a candy box that I was given that had sides that opened up so you could almost fold the box flat.  Well, I got out my trusty little craft knife and took it apart to see how it was put together : )

Box-Closed

and here it is open

Box-Open

To make this fun little box follow these simple steps:

Step 1

Score at 2 ¼, 4 ¼, 7 ¾, 9 ¾ , and 11 ¾

Step-1

Step 2

Flip to the other edge and score at 2 ¾, 4 ¾, 7 ¼, and 9 ¼

Step-2

Step 3

Trim off the extra pieces to leave the final shape as shown

Step-3

Step 4

To round the flaps so the box will open and close I simply took an oval die and traced the shape and fussy cut the flap.

Step-4

Step 5

To make the flaps on the top of the box a little nicer I took my Spellbinders die and placed the flap through as shown and then run this part through your machine far enough to cut the die.

Step-5

Step 6

Finish the inside by adding DP before you assemble the box

Step-6

Step 7

I distressed the edges of the outside of the box before decorating with more pretty DP

Step-7

Here’s a list of the products I used for this project:

Cheery Lynn Designs XM-7 – Oval Classic
Spellbinders – Labels Eighteen
Spellbinders – Decorative Labels Twenty-Seven
Spellbinders – Petite Ovales Large
JustRite – Spring Rose Medallions
JustRtie JB-10025 – Nested Oval Medallion Labels
Stampabilities – CR1069
