Altered Picture Frame Box

Hi everyone,

Have you ever gone to your local Dollar store and looked at the wonderful wooden items that you can buy for a few dollars?  I found this box for $2.00 and just had to have it.

What really caught my eye with this box is that in addition to the drawer on the bottom, the top also opens up.

Here is what the box looked like after I painted it but before I started to decorate it.

Products Used:

HCPC 3500 – Open Vintage Floret PreCut Set
HCPC 3502 – Mini Vintage Floret PreCut Set
HCPC 3572 – Floral Keys & Locket Precut Set
HCPC 3574 – Journey of Love Keys Precut Set
HCD 712 – Bella Rose Die
HCD 727 – Vintage Floret Die
HCD 741 – Burnished Key Die Set
HCDP1 238 – Floral Key Paper Collection

Project Instructions:

Other products: Timeless Rectangles, Distressed Ink, White Embossing Powder, Glossy Accents, 3D foam dots, adhesive and die cutting machine.

Instructions:  Cover the outside of the box with your favorite DP as well as the frame.  I also layered a piece of DP on the inside of the top since is was so visual.  For the picture frame part, I chose to use a stamp from the Floral Keys & Locket Precut Set set on a frame from the card collection and again on a piece of card stock so you can cut out just the lock and pop it out.  I created a few smaller flowers from the Mini Vintage Floret PreCut set with matching die and a larger, more focal flower (from the Open Vintage Floret PreCut Set) for some punch and finish off the box with a few stamped and embossed keys from the Journey of Love PreCut Set.  The keys from the Journey of Love Keys Precut Set were die cut using the Burnished Key Die set.  For the sentiment on the front, stamp die cut and distress and attach with some foam dots for dimension.

I hope to see  you again soon.  I love to read your comments, thank you so much!

  9. What a great idea, I will go to some local dollar stores to see what I can find. I’d also decorate mine with HC products, I’m just getting into those and have several sets but haven’t been well enough to use them and hope to get started very soon. You’ve inspired me!!! I’d love to make a few different boxes over the course of a year and give them to very special people as gifts. Then put in some handmade cards, tags, and bookmarks as a special touch. Thanks so much for this inspiration!!! I hope to someday have my own blog, at least it’s a dream… You are amazing, such artistry and wonderful taste, Joann!!! And I LOVE seeing such artistry from a fellow east-coaster!!!
