Hi there Core Fans! It’s Joann with you today to share a fun project for a chess fan in your life. I am super excited to show you this as this was one of my projects that was presented and featured in the Core’dinations booth at CHA! I would have loved to have been there in person. Maybe some day… 🙂
and here is a closer look at the detail on some of the game pieces.
3D Chess Set Supplies:
- Core Essentials Neutrals Collection
- Tim Holtz Kraft Core Shattered Collection
- Sand It Gadget & Dust Buddy
- Liquid Adhesive
- Silhouette Cameo
To make this project follow these steps.
Cut out all your pieces from the template found here in Black and White cardstock (I actually cut the pieces twice). Also, I am only showing a few of the pieces to make it a little easier to view.
Double all the pieces which makes them that much more sturdy and will last the test of time.
Assemble the pieces by taking the 2 pieces that form the chess piece and fitting them through the slotted holes in the round base folding over the tabs. Glue the tabs and finish with a solid circle on the bottom.
The base is also a storage box for the chess pieces. It measures 11 3/4″ x 11 3/4″. You can use this template for the base and this template for the top if you wish and cut both out a piece of Neutral colored card stock. To make the box stronger, you can add a layer of Chipboard under the base of the box and on the inside of the cover which I did. Next, cover the top of the box in a 11 3/4″ x 11 3/4″ piece of White Cardstock and finish by covering the top with squares cut out of the Tim Holtz Kraft Core Shattered Collection. The squares each measure 1 1/4″ x 1 1/4″. You will need 32 of each color for the board. Finally add any additional embellishments that you desire and then LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
Thanks for stopping by for a peek… Have a wonderful day my crafty friends!
