Memory Book and Storage Box

Memory Book and Storage Box

Hi everyone!  I am delighted that you have popped by today 🙂   Welcome to Wednesday and as always I am here with some inspiration for Heartfelt Creations for you!  I have always loved Memory Books so I created a bit of a different twist on one for you today.  Also as a bonus, you need to store the Memory Book somewhere so I also made a box for the storage!

Project Instructions:

Other products:  White Card Stock, Blue Card Stock, Green Card Stock, Spellbinders Standard Circles Small, Washi Tape, Distressed Inks (Peacock Feathers), Lace and Bling from my stash and die cutting machine.

Instructions:

Start by cutting two pieces of cardstock 6 1/2″ x 5 5/8″ for the front and back cover of the book along with another piece of White cardstock 2″ x 5 5/8″ for the spine.  If you want your book to be sturdy I suggest multiple layers.  I personally did 3 layers.  Next glue a 3 7/8″ x 5 5/8″ piece of cardstock to the center portion.  Now glue the front and backs to the piece of cardstock attached to the center piece of the book.  Allow for 1/8″ (4mm) gap between the pieces to allow the book to open and close without binding.  Flip the book cover over and attach a piece of designer paper measuring 3 7/8″ x 7 3/4″ to the center piece.  Attach two pieces of designer paper measuring 7″ x 7 3/4″ to both the front and back of the cover.  Flip the book over and fold all the edges down and attach to the cover.  Finish the front and back off by attaching designer paper 6 1/8″ x 5 1/4″ to each side.  The pockets are made from 1 piece of card stock 6 5/16″ x 5 1/4″ and a second piece 3 1/4″ x 6 5/16″.  For the smaller piece, scor 1/4″ in from each side to allow the piece to wrap around the larger piece.  Once scored, glue the 2 pieces together.  You will need to repeat this 4 times.  Cover the flaps on the pockets with card stock cut slightly smaller.  There are a total of 3 panels for each pocket.  The first panel measures 2 3/4″ x 5 1/8″.  The second panel measures 3 1/4″ x 5 1/8″ and the final panel measures 6″ x 5 1/8″.  You will need 4 of each panel.  In order to attach the pockets to the book take a piece of card stock 3 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ and score it every 1/4″.  Fold it like an accordion and attach it to a piece of cardstock 1 7/8″ x 5 1/4″.  The pockets will slip over the tabs.  Finally, finish by attaching the pages to the inside and decoration to your hearts content!  Some of the flowers were stamped with Memento Grey Flannel and distressed with Memento Dandelion while others were stamped with Memento Grey Flannel and distressed with Peacock Feathers.

Here are a few Step by step pics to help demonstrate the instructions:

My name is Joann and I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia with my husband Miles. We have one son who is in the Royal Canadian Navy. I have worked full time in the Finance and Insurance industry for the past 29 years. I absolutely adore all things paper & glue and have been involved with crafting in some way for most of my life. I have a great admiration for creating projects from paper that may not necessarily be made from paper. When not in my craft room, I enjoy spending time at our cottage enjoying all that nature and suburban life has to offer.

  1. This is fantastic! I love that you built a case for the album…which is a gorgeous design! Your flowers are always so pretty and they really make this special. I wish I could hold this and really examine the construction. It’s beautifully made. That step out tutorial was a great idea, and very well done, too. So A+++++ for you today, my dear!

Hi I’m trying to make the memory box and cannot figure out the part where you say that the pages will slip over can you explain that more!

    • Hi Randi,
In Step 9 of my step by step instructions, when you make the pockets they will only be glued on the outside edges allowing a piece of paper to slip inside the pockets. In Step 11, you take a piece of card stock 3 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ and score it every 1/4″ and fold it like an accordion. Once folded the pockets you made in Step 9 will fit over the 1/4″ folds you made in Step 11. This will allow you attach the pages to the book and hide the joint.
I hope this helps and I would love to see your finished project!
